2024 Vic Champs - Day 2

Day 2 of the South Melbourne Physio Victorian Track & Field Championships saw not one, but four club record holders compete at the state’s home of athletics, Lakeside Stadium. Leading the way, and adding another piece of hardware to his already vast collection was international representative, Ned Weatherly, who took out the MOP Victorian hammer throw title with a throw of 64.37m.

Fellow record holders Alexia Loizou progressed to the final of the FOP 400m in a time of 55.38, ahead of club mate Paige Elvey (57.29) in twelfth, while jumper, Brittany Burkitt placed 7th (5.56m) in her pet event.

MU15 competitor, Tyrone Nesbitt, finished second by one hundredth of a second (11.72) in a tightly contested 100m championship, matching the effort of Kobe-Lee Dyer who also finished second (14.65) in the PF20 100m. Gabriella Kuthan (FU17), Erin Limpens (FU16), and Jhett Triep (MU16) all showed their versatility, contesting both the 100m and 400m. Following in the footsteps of Loizou, Kuthan, Limpens, and Kaylah Barrett (FU20) will all contest Sunday’s 400m finals.

The final day of the championship’s first weekend continues on Sunday.
